After Cincinnati's Fountain Square Christmas tree received a new corporate sponsor, 3CDC hired Jordan to replace the outdated sponsor-branded acrylic star with a new permanent tree topper. Rather than simply reproducing the previous design, Jordan came up with the concept of a multi-point Moravian-inspired star. Its unique geometric form would create a sense of depth during the day and maximize the impact of internal lighting at night.

However, before the design process could begin, many project requirements needed to be acknowledged. The finished star needed to remain approximately five feet tall to match the existing proportions atop the city's Christmas tree. It also had to weigh less than one hundred pounds so maintenance crews could safely install it each year using the existing mounting system. Most importantly, the attachment points needed to match the previously engineered hardware already installed on the tree. Complicating the project further was an exceptionally short timeline, giving Jordan only a handful of weeks for design, engineering approval, fabrication, finishing, and installation. Accepting the challenge, he immediately got to work.

The internal structure consists of a central square steel tube which supports radiating structural arms that distribute loads evenly to each point of the star. Around this framework, Jordan fabricated an exterior shell from precision-cut 16-gauge mild steel. Individual pyramidal sections were plasma-cut, welded together, ground smooth and given a durable black finish to create bold geometric lines.

To create an even glow, translucent white polycarbonate panels were custom fabricated for every face of the star. Jordan developed a system that allowed each panel to snap securely into the steel frame from the interior before being mechanically fastened in place. This approach eliminated concerns about vibration or weather loosening the panels over years of outdoor exposure while still allowing future maintenance.

Jordan collaborated with a lighting company to integrate programmable LED lighting inside the sculpture. The lighting system could synchronize with the tree's larger holiday light show while remaining serviceable through an access door hidden within the structure. This maintenance access allows technicians to repair or replace lighting components without disassembling the sculpture.

Delivery day became a public unveiling as city employees, 3CDC staff, and citizens gathered to watch the new star arrive. Multiple Cincinnati news stations covered both the installation and the annual tree-lighting ceremony itself.

Today, the custom star serves as the centerpiece of Cincinnati's annual Fountain Square Christmas tree, welcoming thousands of visitors each holiday season and helping define one of the city's most beloved traditions.
